但是，这只是中国法律的汉译英文本中的例句。在原文为英文的法律文本中，以表达“为---目的”这层意思而使用for the purpose of并不多见。在下面这个例子虽然用法与上例相同，但是翻译成“为了---目的”也仍然是不妥当的。

例：a judge may, on the application of an appellant who is in custody, order the applellant to be brought up to the court in custody for the purpose of attending his appeal or any application or any procedding therein.

之所以推荐使用in order to来表达“为了--”， 是因为for the purpose of在法律英语中的用法早已“变味”到不可逆转的地步：
