Abstract:Withtheextensionofthehypothesisof/EnvironmentalKuznetsCurve0,thispaperestablishedeconometricmodelsthroughcorrelatingsixkindsofpollutionindicatorswithurbanizationlevelandcon-trolledvariables.Byusingpaneldatafromthirtyprovinces(citiesandmunicipalities)ofChinafrom1998to2005,authorsconductedempiricalstudywiththehelpofEviewssoftwarepackage.Resultsdemonstra-tedthatinverted-Ushaperelationshipwasfoundbetweenfourkindsofpollutantindicatorsandurbaniza-tionlevel,andothertwokindsofindicatorshaveUshaperelationshipwithurbanizationlevel.Atpresent,Chinahasmovedtotherightpartofthecurvesasawhole.Duetothedevelopmentdisparitiesexistingamongregions,everyprovincemovestotherightpartofthecurvesatdifferenttimes.Withtheintroduc-tionofcontrolledvariablestotheeconometricmodel,theestimatedresultsshowedthatturning-pointofsomecurvesaswellastheUcurverelationshipbetweensomepollutantindicatorsandurbanizationlevelallchanged.Foreigntradedoesnotnecessarilyresultinenvironmentaldeterioration,andtheso-calledpollu-tionhavenhypothesisdoesnotexistinChina.Thechangeinindustrialstructureisanimportantfactorcausingenvironmentalpollution.ThedecreaseofenergyconsumptionperunitofGDPinducedbytechno-logicalprogresscanalleviatethepressureofenvironmentalpollution.Fastereconomicgrowthwillgiverisetomoresevereenvironmentalpollution.
