Sentences of unreal Condition(虚拟条件句)
The basic verb forms of sentences of unreal condition:
1. Condition contrary to the fact of the present time:
If ...did/were, ...would/should/could/ might +v.
2. Condition contrary to the fact of the past time:
If...had done, ...would/should/could/might +have done
3. Condition contrary to the fact of the future time:
If ... A: did/ were ...would/should/could/might +do
B: were to +do
C: should +do
Condition contrary to the fact of the future time:
If ... A: did/ were
B: were to +do
C: should +do
... ...would/should/could/might +do
If it snowed/ should snow / were to snow tomorrow, I should/would stay at home.
the inverted form in conditional sentences:
If there is ―were‖, ―had‖, or ―should‖ in conditional clause, we can omit ―if‖ and use the
inverted form.
Were it necessary, I might resign. Had you informed me earlier, I wouldn’t have signed the contract. Should I have time, I would call on her. Were they to get married, they would be happy. Were he living happily, I would be very much astonished.
