四、颜色词的互译

翻译颜色词就是在两种文化之间架起一座桥梁,把原

文中色彩斑斓的世界重新展现在读者面前,使读者有身临其境之感。拉多在《跨文化语言学》中指出文化对比可以通过三种形式(form),意义(meaning)和分布(distribution)进行,具体分为三种情况。(1)同一形式,同一意义,不同

(2)同一形式,不同意义;分布;如:greenpepper与“青椒”

(3)同一意义,不同形式。如:black如:redflag与“红旗”

tea与“红茶。”针对这三种情况颜色词有以下几种译法:

1.对于“同一形式,同一意义,不同分布”,采用直译法,即把英语或汉语颜色词译成与之相应的汉语或英语颜色词。例如:

(1)Theverydustwasscorchedbrown,andsomethingquiveredintheatmosphereasiftheairitselfwaspanting.

我看到他那辆漂亮的新车就非常眼红。

(3)Thecoverswereofheavyweight,buff2coloredcalen2

darpaperwithtwoholespunchedintheedges.

封面和封底是重磅的米色道林纸,边上打了两个眼。

(4)Hedidn’ttryinvain.他没有白干。(5)Hereyesbecamemoist.她眼圈红了。

(6)Itislikeawindfall,likeaGodsend,likeanunex2

pectedpieceofluck.

它像飞来的吉庆,像天降洪福,像意外红运。3.对于“同一意义,不同形式”,采用“文化对等译法”例如:

(1)Idobeseechye,ifyoubearmehard,nowwhilstyourpurpledhandsdoreekfulfillyourpleasure,

连那尘土都被炙烤成褐色;大气中似乎也有什么东西在颤抖,仿佛空气本身也在气喘吁吁。

(2)Theclear,sharpcloventheirsteadfastflameofo.

(3)Theleaflesstrees,thatagainsttheleadenskynowrevealedmorefullythewonderfulbeautyandintricaciesoftheirbranches.

那叶儿落尽的树木,映衬着铅灰色的天空,此刻显得更加枝丫交错,姿态万千。

(4)红雨随心翻作浪,青山着意化为桥。

Crimsonrainswirlsinwavesunderourwill,greenmountainsturntobridgesatourwish.

2.对于“同一形式,不同意义”,运用改变或增补颜色

总之,英汉语言的颜色词有丰富的文化内涵。通过分析、比较两种语言颜色词含义的异同,能够帮助我们正确地使用颜色词,再现原文缤纷绚丽的色彩和独特鲜明的民族文化,从而进行有效的跨文化交际,增进两种文化之间的沟通与学习。
