靶基因的沉默效果, 又避免siRNA诱导的免疫刺激和脱靶副作用, 为其临床应用打下基础[65]。

最近, 牛津大学科学家开发出一种由DNA制造的分子“笼子”, 能进入哺乳动物活细胞内部并在其中生存, 可能带来一种有效的药物递送新方法。DNA“分子笼”由4条人工合成的DNA短链构成, 能围绕蛋白质分子组装起来, 从而形成一个“分子笼”将该蛋白质包在内部, 而且能够通过设计程序, 让“分子笼”在遇到细胞内特定的“触发”分子时再度打开。特波菲尔德认为, 这种四面体“分子笼”只有7 nm, 不但容易进入细胞, 还留出了相当大的空间以容纳药物, 可以根据所装载的药物设计“分子笼”的结构, 以达到理想的释放
