W: I was born in Singapore in 1983.

M: Did you grow up there?

W: No, my parents moved in 1989 and I was brought up in Hong Kong. I lived there until 1998 and then I came to Italy.

W: Camping in Alberta.

M: Camping? You must be joking.

W: No, really. They wanted a change from those five-star hotels.

M: I’m thinking of going to New Zealand next year. Could you tell me when is a good time to go?

W: I wouldn’t go in the winter. It can be very cold and wet from June to August. But if you go from around November to March, you should have weather.

M: I see. And what places would you suggest I visit?

W: I think you’d like Auckland. That’s the biggest city. And the capital Wellington’s nice too. Christchurch is also worthy of a visit. It’s internationally known as the ―Garden City‖. Then you’d try to see as much of the countryside as possible.

M: Is there plenty to see there?

W: Yes. It’s small country, but there are mountains, beaches, lakes and everything. You can even go skiing on the South Island if you want to.

M: That sounds nice. I’ll think about it. Thanks for your advice.

W: It was exactly two years ago today that we moved to this town. You started working on your degree, and I started working down at the lab.

M: It seems like only yesterday. I suppose that I am so busy I don’t even notice how time passes.

W; I’d expect the opposite. I mean, the way you’ve been studying, working on experiments and writing dozens of papers. It might seem more like four years than two.

M: Haven’t you ever noticed how time seems to crawl when you have nothing to do but how time flies when you are busy with what you really like to do?

W: That’s true. Those days when there was not much to do at the lab didn’t ever seem to end.

M: Just wait a little longer. As soon as I finish my degree, we’ll open our own chemistry lab.
