Step 1 Revision

Get the students to say out the learning challenges and solutions.

Step 2 Reading

First ask the students to look through the passage to find out the challenges the writer had:

a. He couldn’t understand every word.

b. He couldn’t always make complete sentences.

c. He found English grammar was difficult.

Then study the passage.

Some points:

1. first of all = at first

2. it doesn’t matter “不要紧, 没关系” = Not at all. / That’s all right.

3. I was also afraid to speak in class ..

be afraid to do sth “害怕做某事” 例:Don’t be afraid to speak in class. of doing sth Don’t be afraid of speaking in class.

of sth “害怕某事”

(that) 从句 “恐怕 ” I’m afraid (that) he can’t come now. Read the passage after the tape.

Scan the statements below the passage and write “T” of “F”.

3b. Let the students write the letter themselves then check the answer.
