A

Winnie-the-Pooh by A. A. Milne

Winnie-the-Pooh has been introduced and reintroduced to generation after generation as a model of a child’s best friend. However, not everyone has found Pooh is lovely. This classic has been banned(禁止)in a variety of countries at one point or another, including Russia, Turkey, and even its home, England. In fact, even some places in the United States have banned this book!

So why would anyone ever like to keep children from, the joy of Milne’s classic? In the case of Russia, Minnie-the-Pooh was banned in 2009 because of allege(所谓的)Nazi ties.

The Wonderful wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum

Originally published in the year 1900, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz is one of the foundations of the fairytale genre. Who, then, would seek to ban a book that has become so important to the American experience?

The Detroit Library banned The wonderful Wizard of Oz in 1957 for allegedly having no value for children.

Charlotte’s Web by E.B. White

White’s tale of the relationship between two unexpected creatures, a spider and a pig, has been drawing children in for over half a century. Published in 1952, the classic has been readily displayed on most library shelves for children to read.

However, some people would like t make this book never see the light of the day. In one extreme case, a school in England banned Charlotte’s Web for fear that the pig Wilbur might be offensive(冒犯的) to Muslim students. Fortunately, the Muslin Council of Britain saw the foolishness of this ban, so the book was quickly put back to their rightful place on the shelves.

Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak

Though it’s been published for fifty years, this book hasn’t always been really found in libraries and in stores. After its release, Where the Wild Things Are was banned in libraries all across the U. S. for its dark tone and unruly lead character. Being the eldest son of my parents,I became the “big boy” of the family. My parents gave me the status of a “big boy” and started giving me the tasks that

were somewhat challenging for me at that young age.Whenever I had some hesitation in doing a certain task, they used to encourage me by saying,“you are a big boy, you can do it”. Though I was a small boy at that time but my confidence level grew to the new heights and I started behaving myself as a big boy. That “big boy” concept slowly developed into the “I can do” philosophy(哲理) which has helped me a lot throughout my life.

The “I can do” philosophy prepares you mentally,as well physically, and helps you to do what otherwise you think you cannot do. The “big boy” concept boosts(促进)your inner energy level to such an extent where you start believing “you can do”. And that is the starting point which opens the doors of success for you.

Whenever I have to face a challenge, I say to myself “I can do it because I am a big boy” and that encourages me a lot in overcoming my fears and provides my body with the extra energy needed to do that “impossible” task.

The “big boy” concept is always helpful to anyone. It takes away all your weaknesses and thus enables you to accept big challenges. By accepting big challenges, you invite big opportunities and thus get big rewards.

Success in life comes to the people who think big, act big and are willing to accept big responsibilities. Make yourself feel big. Plan something big.
