Origin of HalloweenHalloween is one of the world’s oldest holidays,celebrated in several countries around the world

including the USA, Canada, England, Ireland,Scotland, Mexico, Latin America, and Spain.

The Celtic peoples lived over 2,000 years ago.In the place that is now Ireland, the United Kingdom, and Northern France.Halloween’s origins date back to the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (pronounced sow-in). 在2000多年前的爱尔兰及法国北部，住着一群凯尔特人， 而万圣节就是起源于古凯尔特人的一个叫做Samhain的节 庆。

Origin of HalloweenThe name Halloween comes from a contraction of All Hallows Eve,the day before All Hallows Day. On this night it was believed that the spirits of the dead would try to come back to life.

CostumesHalloween monsters costumes are traditionally those of such as ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils. Costumes are also based on themes other than traditional horror, such as those of characters from television shows, movies and other pop culture icons(偶像， 代表人物).

Because the holiday comes in the wake of the annual apple harvest,candy apples(also known as toffee apples) are a common Halloween treat made by rolling whole apples in a sticky sugar syrup, and sometimes rolling them in nuts. Candy apples were commonly given to children.

Candy apples, also known as toffee apples outside of North America, are whole apples covered in a hard toffee or sugar candy coating, with a stick inserted as a handle. These are a common treat at autumn festivals in Western culture in the Northern Hemisphere, such as Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night because these festivals fall in the wake of the annual apple harvest. Jack-o'-lantern

Carved pumpkins are traditionally known as “Jack-o-lanterns.” Traditionally, the jack-o-lantern was carved from a turnip, potato, or beet and lit with a burning candle. These lanterns represented the souls of departed loved ones and were placed in windows or set on porches to welcome the deceased. They also served as protection from evil spirits freed from the dead on Halloween night.
