If they had private promise to marry, the boy will buy an engagement ring for the girl.
If the girl changes her mind, she usually returns the ring. If they continue getting along well, there will be a wedding.

The English people are very strict about privacy. They think the private matters are their own things. You should mind your own business. There are some other questions you should never ask an Englishman unless you know him very well. Firstly, don’t ask about money matters, such as income or salary of friend, or prices of their possessions. Secondly, don’t ask woman’s age and personal questions, or remark.

When this national anthem is played, still most English people stand up. If you were at an important banquet, when you drink wine or spirit, the first toast is always to the Queen.

The leading officer will stand up and say “Ladies and Gentlemen, the Queen”. Then all the persons present will drink, saying “the Queen”. There are a lot of customs like this to show respect for their Queen. In America someone can criticize or joke about the President, but in Britain people are never allowed to joke about the King or Queen.
