Unit Introduction: This Unit is designed to enable you to gain an understanding of different

approaches to managing an organisation in today’s dynamic and complex business environment. It will

introduce you— whether intending to or working in an administrative, commercial or management role — to current management theories to enable you to use these to evaluate organisational effectiveness.

On completion of the Unit you should be able to:

1 Explain the characteristics and purpose of the organisation and its environment.

2 Analyse factors that influence workplace performance.

3 Analyse factors that influence managerial performance.

4 Identify and compare alternative approaches to organising people within the workplace.

The coursework on this unit aims to assess the students’ knowledge with regard to their understanding and application of MPO. Students will be required to clearly manage an organization in today’s dynamic and complex business environment in their successful completion of this unit.

1. This is an individual based assessment involving outcome 4.

- words:1,500 (You may exceed this limit by 10% without penalty or be under 3000 words by 10%.Any more words or less than this will mean your mark will be reduced by 10% for every 10% increase or loss of words.

6. If you are unable to hand in your own work on time and have valid reasons such as illness, you may

apply (in writing) for an extension.

7. Failure to achieve a PASS grade will results in a REDO (40% or minus failure ) or

REASSESSMENT(50% or plus failure) being given.

8. NOTE: if you are caught plagiarising, you could have your grade reduced to zero, or at worst,

you could be excluded from the course.

9. As students it is expected that you will be proactive in seeking out learning opportunities and

developing professional standards. It is your responsibility to attend your classes on time, keep informed about assessments and to meet the requirements in order to perform to the best of your ability on this unit. Evidence clearly shows that student commitment and attendance has a direct impact on their results in this unit.

Assessment task instructions

You should select an existing organisation and carry out a research investigation. This may be a local organization, i.e. Haier, etc or one of which you have some knowledge of through

employment, family and friends, or other experience.

You will be expected to complete the research and submit the evidence before January 4th, 2013.

Evidence should be presented in the form of a portfolio including text and diagrams which

meets the following criteria:
