10.Workmanship,Finish,andAppearance

10.1Thewirerodshallbefreeofdetrimentalsurfaceimperfections,tangles,andsharpkinks.

10.1.1Twoormorerodcoilsmaybeweldedtogethertoproducealargercoil.Theweldzonemaynotbeassoundastheoriginalmaterial.Themechanicalpropertiesexistingintheweldmetalmaydifferfromthoseintheunaffectedbasemetal.Theweldmayexceedthestandarddimensionalpermissiblevariationsontheminussideandmustbewithinthepermissiblevariationsontheplusside.

10.3Thestraightenedandcutwireshallbesubstantiallystraightandnotbekinkedorshowexcessivespiralmarking.11.NumberofTestsandRetests

11.1Thedifficultiesinobtainingtrulyrepresentativesamplesofwirerodandcoarseroundwirewithoutdestroyingtheusefulnessofthecoilofwireaccountforthegenerallyacceptedpracticeofallowingretestsformechanicaltestsandsurfaceexamination.Twoadditionaltestpiecesarecutfromeachendofthecoilfromwhichtheoriginalsamplewastaken.Aportionofthecoilmaybediscardedpriortocuttingthesampleforretest.Ifanyoftheretestsfailstocomplywiththerequirements,thecoilofwiremayberejected.Before nalrejection,however,itisfrequentlyadvisabletobase naldecisiononanactualtrialofthematerialtodeterminewhetherornotitwilldothejobforwhichitisintended.

12.Inspection

12.1Themanufacturershallaffordthepurchaser’sinspectorallreasonablefacilitiesnecessarytosatisfyhimthatthematerialisbeingproducedandfurnishedinaccordancewiththisspeci cation.Millinspectionbythepurchasershallnotinterfereunnecessarilywiththemanufacturer’soperations.Alltestsandinspectionsshallbemadeattheplaceofmanufacture,unlessotherwiseagreedto.

13.RejectionandRehearing

13.1Anyrejectionbasedontestsmadeinaccordancewiththisspeci cationshallbereportedtotheproducerwithinareasonablelengthoftime.Thematerialmustbeadequatelyprotectedandcorrectlyidenti edinorderthattheproducermaymakeaproperinvestigation.

14.Certi cation

14.1Whenspeci edinthepurchaseorderorcontract,aproducer’sorsupplier’scerti cationshallbefurnishedtothepurchaserthatthematerialwasmanufactured,sampled,tested,andinspectedinaccordancewiththisspeci cationandhasbeenfoundtomeettherequirements.Whenspeci edinthepurchaseorderorcontract,areportofthetestresultsshallbefurnished.
