6.3.2Becauseofthedegreetowhichphosphorusandsulfursegregate,productanalysisfortheseelementsisnottechno-logicallyappropriateforrephosphorizedorresulfurizedsteels,orboth,unlessmisapplicationisclearlyindicated.

6.3.3Thelocationatwhichchipsforproductanalysisareobtainedfromthesampleisimportantbecauseofsegregation.Forrodsandwire,chipsaretakenbymillingormachiningthefullcrosssectionofthesample.

8.2Becauseofthegreatvarietyinthekindsofwireandtheextensivediversityofenduses,anumberofformalmechanicaltestprocedureshavebeendeveloped.Thesetestsareusedascontroltestsbyproducersduringtheintermediatestagesofwireprocessing,aswellasfor naltestingofthe nishedproduct,andapplyparticularlytospeci cationwireandwiresforspeci edenduses.AnumberofthesetestsarefurtherdescribedinSupplementIV,RoundWireProducts,ofTestMethodsandDe nitionsA370.

8.3Sincethegeneralutilityofrodsandwirerequirescontinuityoflength,inthecaseofrods,testsarecommonlymadeonsamplestakenfromtheendsofcoilsafterremovingtwotothreerings.Inthecaseofwire,testsarecommonlymadeonsamplestakenfromtheendsofcoils,therebynotimpairingtheusefulnessofthewholecoil.
