Cheating and plagiarism in University

Do you want to be a thief? I suppose all of us will say no. However, what about the one you do not have to commit a crime under most circumstances, then you just take what you need and others cannot perceive your unmoral behavior. It sounds incredible but really exits. The thief may not break the law and do harm to other people in some extents. To be honest, there are more and more such thieves in our universities. We call them copycats or cheaters.

It is ashamed to witness that cheating in exam or having plagiarism in one’s thesis now is prevalent. People even don’t feel shame about their deeds. What happen to our moral standard? What causes these misbehaviors widespread in campus? The reasons can be divided into three parts.

Firstly, the losing of credits results in cheating and plagiarism. As our country’s economy develops quickly, the material life has changed tremendously. However, our spiritual civilization is still falling behind. Many people are lack of faith and money worship followers, to say nothing of cheating in exam.

Secondly, too heavy study burden and too much assignments make students hardly even take a breath. As the proverb goes: When a thing reaches its extreme, it reverses its course. The pressures lead to some short-cut in the examination or in thesis accomplishment. Especially in some informal tests, cheating seems to have been a hidden rule.

Finally, the punishment for the dishonest deeds sometimes may too light. People usually treat cheating as personal behaviors. It doesn’t affect others so that people feel at ease when they treat in exam or copy others’ compositions. This awareness makes the punishment measures become very obscure. Therefore, students often count on luck. That’s an obvious reason for the treating behavior.

It is high time that we took measures to solve the problem. First and foremost, we should get the students to form the idea of being honest, both in study and in life. Besides, a strict discipline for exams should be carried out. It is necessary to control learning burden at a proper level, so as to be an accurate reflection of students’ standards while not bringing them too much pressure. The school authority should take more efficient measures to let the students know how important honesty is. Meanwhile, whoever cheats will be punished.

In my opinion, it is wrong to cheat in examinations, no matter what’s the reason you have. This behavior not only breaking school’s rules, but also making teachers and parents disappoint. We must put a resolute stop to these unhealthy practices. Let school have a good environment to study and compete. Like this, students are really able to learn more useful knowledge. Moreover, we should be honest to meet our problems. Don’t choose to escape. Problems will not terrible, terrible things are not to think of ways to resolve them. If you try your best to study, I think you could not fail to exam.

Believe yourself, honest yourself. You can do well in the study. Don’t be cheating in the examination.
