Tutorial Lesson 3 – Analysis
** Now let’s go ahead and learn how to create an analysis on the model we just setup. **
ANALYSIS Menu: #Mechanica Analyses/Studies…
ANALYSES AND DESIGN STUDIES Dialog Box: #File, #New Static…
** This will bring up the Analysis Definition Dialog Box. Here is where we define many of the attributes of the analysis such as which constraints to use, what loads to include, and how to converge on the results. For a static analysis you must have at least one constraint set and one load set. You can also have multiple sets defined for different loading conditions and can set these up to run all as one analysis or separate. **

** Click on the Output tab and increase the plotting grid to 6. The plotting grid is a factor of how dense your result calculations will be. The higher the number the more times Mechanica will calculate results along an element edge. The higher the number the longer Mechanica will take to calculate the results so keep this to somewhere between 4 and 6 for initial calculations. You may increase this as needed later on. Click on OK when you are done. **
STATIC ANALYSIS DEFINITION Dialog Box: #Output Tab, Plotting Grid: 6, #OK
** Now it is time to run the first analysis. Let’s go ahead and run this one. **

QUESTION Dialog Box: #Yes
** The analysis will now begin to run. Depending upon the complexity of your analysis, this can run fairly quickly or it can take a long time. This analysis is fairly simple so the run time should be within a minute or two. Once complete, the Diagnostics dialog box will appear and display the status of the run. **

** Now let’s take a look at some of the results of this analysis. Clicking on the Review Results Icon will automatically launch a separate window for results viewing. In addition, this will pre-load the initial analysis into your Results Window Definition. **

** The definition window will then appear. Fill this out like the one shown above. Von Mises stress is a preferred method of evaluating stress that will lead to a yielding condition.

** Now create another result window, this will be a displacement result. Fill this out as shown in the following figure. **
