Firstly, I want to tell a story I read on the internet. In the bear farming, there were a mother bear and her baby. They were put in the cage to produce bile. The procedure was so painful that one day the mother bear killed her baby and suicided with tears for she didn’t want her baby and herself to tolerate the pain any more. The first thing come to my mind is that how suffering the procedure was can let the mother chose death.

Recently, the news about that the company Guizhentang Pharmaceuticals expected to expand the size of its farm and the number of its bears caused much controversy. Guizhentang Pharmaceuticals is a company mainly producing with bear bile and is the biggest bear farm of south china. People show their protests because their afraid of there would be more and more bear suffer from the extraction of bile.

The extraction of Bear Bile is that bears are farmed in the cages and by a "free drip" extraction method, in which farmers drill a permanent hole and using a catheter inserted into the bear's abdomen and gall bladder to allow bile to be tapped. It’s so cruel that human beings extract the bile from living bears again and again until the bears die. Some bears even choose death instead of tolerate this pain. However, human beings are always very clever that they invented a vest made of iron for bears to prevent them from suicided. So the whole lives of bears are put in the cage and provide human with their bile.

The holes in the bear’s body can never recovery, so they all finally die of diseases such as cancer.

Why this industry can grow rapidly? Chinese traditional medicine practitioners have for millennia used bear bile to treat heart disease, impotence, sore eyes and a variety of other human conditions. Its healing properties have been recognized in Western medicine as well. So the products of bear bile are so fashionable and they always cost a lot of money.

The supporter says that bear bile is the precious resource for our human, why not use it to benefit ourselves. They also claim that the process of extracting bear bile now only takes about 10 seconds. During that short period, the black bear feels no pain or any strange , and can play and eat as usual,"

The opponent insists that the process of extraction is a kind of animal abuse which must be very painful. They also doubt the quality of bile extract from the bear which suffer from disease such as cancer.

I think other animals are equal to human beings, even we take some animals as food we can’t use those cruel means to abuse them because they also have feelings and they are lives too. There are some substitutes for the bear bile so why we still choose to hurt lives. I think that’s all because of the desire for profit. The extraction of bear bile should be abandoned. The disappear of this industry depends on the consumers because no buy no kill.
