III. Answer the following questions.

1. Being a successful athlete, the writer assumed that a good tradition in his country could enable

him to be a good product spokesman, because people would eat the same peanut butter, drink the

same beer and wear the same pants as he did.

2. The most intolerable thing for the writer as a toupee model was that he had to wear the wig

whenever he appeared in public, whether it was hot or cold.

3. The partner assumed that as a successful football player the writer should naturally have the

capability of giving insightful comments in sports broadcast.

4. The writer's problems in the first few broadcasts were his lack of knowledge and preparation,

his inability to watch the players in a game, and his nervousness.

5. The writer eventually succeeded in sports broadcasting for three reasons; his talent of "big

mouth" (knowing how to make people smile), help from his partner and his enduring effort to adapt

himself to the new situation.

IV. Explain in your own words the following sentences taken from the text.

1. As a player I only cared about the winning of the game, i. e. the general picture of it, while as

a broadcaster I soon learned that it was the details, i. e. the series of actions taking place on the field

that make up the whole view of the game.

have come to realize what I can do best.
