Lead-in: Warm-up questions(15mins) . : Let the students answer questions. 1)What do you think of yourself as far as English learning is concerned? 教 2)What is the greatest difficulty you have in English learning? 3)Do you think it useful to learn English with the help of some strategies? 学 4)What strategies do you use in English learning? Then lead them to read the new words and expressions from page 3 to 4.(pay 进 attention to the words in bold) 2. Read the new words and expressions in Text A (20mins) 程 1) Asking students to read and then correct the pronunciation. 2 )Asking students to read after teacher. 3) Explaining the new words. 4) Teacher reads Chinese and students read English accordingly. 3. Give information Related to the Text(15mins)1)What is strategy?

A strategy refers to a set of carefully planned methods for achieving something that is difficult and may take a long time.2)Active Vocabulary and Passive Vocabulary

Even native speakers of a language have both an active and a passive vocabulary. Active vocabulary consists of the words you use frequently and comfortably in speaking and writing, while passive vocabulary consists of the words you recognize when you read and listen. Therefore, when you encounter a new word or expression that you want to learn, you have to decide whether you want to be able to recognize it again or to make it part of your “active” vocabulary. 4. Discourse Analysis (15mins) Introduction-------- Para. 1~Para. 2 Body--------------- Para. 3~Para. 8 Strategies (1------6) Conclusion----------Para. 9 In introducing some strategies, the author adopts the structure of Problem—Strategy within a paragraph to show us the problems in English learning and then proposes strategies to solve the problems.

Word study: understand the basic usages of some difficult words and expressions 2. Translation: understand the translating meaning of Text A, especially some difficult sentences 教 Section II Reading (90 minutes) 1. Review Text A (10mins) 学 Ask students to read the text. 2. 2. Detailed study of text A: Words and useful expressions(30mins) 进 Strategy, means, nevertheless, command, complain, cram, bound, constant, commit, acquaintance, effective, route, enlarge, idiom, addition, detail, purchase, 程 reliable, source, input, handle, apart, assign, motivation, process, accumulation, absorb, by no means, at fault, at a time, be bound to , commit to memory, watch out for, learn of, on a … basis, in addition to , over and over again, seek out, feel free, for instance, in detail, act out, apart from, put … into practice 3. Detailed studying of Text A (40mins) 4. Summary the main idea of the text by filling the blanks according to Text A. (See Summary of the Text in After Reading) (15mins)English as an international language is of vital importance for everybody to learn. Learning English is (绝非易事) by no means easy. Besides (持续的刻苦努力) sustained hard work, we need employ some learning strategies to (促进我们的学习) facilitate our learning .

We should deal with new words in different ways. (我们应当以不同的方式对待生词) . Active words demand constant practice while passive words only need to be recognized. As we try to understand the meaning of a word, we are also reminded of (它们的习惯用法) their idiomatic usage .Listening, speaking, reading and writing are the four basic skills that (我们不断努力试图 获得的) we are constantly trying to acquire. In order to improve the four skills, we are suggested to listen to English every day, (抓住一切机会说英语) seize every opportunity to speak, read widely (难度适中的材料) material at a proper level of difficulty and write regularly. Listening and reading (为我们提供语言输入) provide us with language input and we are expected to (实 际运用我们所学的东西)put what we have learned into practice through speaking and writing.

5. Recite the important paragraph.
