analysis of the textthis lesson is about virtual reality. by studying of this lesson, we’ll enable the students to know the serious attitude towards scientific progress and develop an interest in technology. this lesson plays an important role in the english learning and teaching in this unit, as it is the main passage in this unit which outlines the theme of this unit. if the students can learn it well, it will be helpful to make them learn the rest of this unit. this text is a dialogue between two students, tom and cathy, talking about virtual reality. because they are future of the world and thus they surely will show a greater interest in the topic, i have an intention to give my students a chance to present the class on their own.analysis of the studentsin this period, students have cultivated various interests, including reading books about literature or scientific researches. besides, they have commanded a number of words and expressions and show interests in learning english. through the introduction of virtual reality, their reading interests can be motivated. and as we all know, reading belongs to the input during the process of language learning. the input has great effect on output, such as speaking and writing. hence it is beneficial for students’ speaking and writing abilities. teaching objectivesknowledge objectives1. students would be able to get the general meaning of the passage.2. students would be c

unit 1 a perfectday教学设计

thinking before class:

this is a narrative passage. it talks about two different kinds oflifestyles. through learning this passage, students can think abouttheir attitudes towards life. and maybe they can improve their lifequality.

teaching aims:

to read two texts for specific information

to improve t he students’ reading ability and expressingability.

teaching course:

step 1: lead-in (pair work)

first ask students the question to arouse their interest.

1. what do you think a perfect day is like?

(students will give all kinds of answers: go shopping ; watchingtv; read novels; listen to music; surf the internet and soon.)

2. what are your favourite kinds of tv program?

(students will give all kindsof answers: sports programmes; the news; tv serious; cartoons; gameshows; films; and so on.)

3. draw a conclusion: do all you like to do; live a life in the wayyou like.

now read two texts telling you two people’s perfect days.

step2: fast reading or listen to the passage with books open (pairwork)

understanding the text

read the text and answer the following questions.

1. what kind of lifestyle do you think the man in a couchpotato?

2. do you ever watch too much tv? how much time do you spendwatching tv every day?

3. what kind of lifestyle do you think the man in the secondtext? step3: careful reading( pair work)

after students read the passage carefully, they will do thefollowing reading comprehension on the paper:

1.is brain a lazy person? can you find two examples of his lazybehaviour?

(yes. he doesn’t get up early. he doesn’t work but his wife worksand she makes his meals.)

2.what do you think “you’ve got the world at your feet ”means? (it means you are in a position where you have the chance to becomevery successful. in the text, it is used in a humorous way. itmeans this person feels he has a successful life because he canwatch anything he likes in the tv.)

3.how does bob spend his morning and evening?

(his morning is very busy, with very little time to get dressed andhave all kinds of urgent matters. his evening is not easy, either.he has documents to read and never gets to sleep until mid-night.)

4.why does bob’s family complain?

(because he seldom has time for fun and other activities with hisfamily.)

5.why does bob work so hard?

(he wants to make more money for his family and he likes beingbusy.)

when people grow up, they will take different occupations in different work places. a society is thus made up of people from different walks of life. what kind of person do you want to be in the future? the following introductions might help you to make a right decision.

teacher

teachers are professionals who work in schools, colleges and universities. they try their best to help their students get new knowledge and become useful people in the future. teachers work includes explaining lessons, giving homework and correcting papers and so on. at the end of every term, they

give grades to their students, too. actually teachers do more. often their impact on students stays all through their lives. doctor

doctors, like teachers, are also professionals. they work in hospitals. doctors are usually very busy too. they examine patients then tell them what kind of medicine to take. the skills of a doctor sometimes mean the difference between life and death.

secretary

a secretary is a person who writes letters, answers the telephone, and receives people. she stores information in a computer and keep documents in order. a secretary stands between her boss and the visitors; she also helps the boss to plan his time and finishes his work. girls are more likely to become secretaries then boys.

businessperson

a businessman usually works in an office, where he/she also goes to meetings and discussed problems with his/her business partners. he/she works at buying, selling, and producing things, he/she usually does not work by

himself/herself, but hire workers to help him/her. people often think a businessperson gets rich quickly, but, in fact, for every coin, they have spent a lot of time and efforts。

fashion model

fashion models wear the newest styles of clothes and show them to us through television, newspapers and magazines. fashion show programmes usually have a large audience. when people see fashion pictures in newspapers and magazines, they may want to get the same kind of clothes these fashion models wear. fashion pictures are also collected in books. often the clothes and hairstyles worn by fashion models seem strange to us. a lot of young people, however, may discover their idols among them.
