Animal testings should be banned.

时间:2025-07-15

Specific Purpose:To persuade my audience that animal testings should be banned.

Central Idea:Animals have the right to be treated as beings of value in themselves, not as the means to human ends. It is therefore never acceptable to test medicines on perfectly animals, even if the treatments are for use on other animals.

Main Points:

1.It is unethical and cruel

It is not fair to take undue advantage of innocent animals. It should be understood that a monkey or a mouse would experience the same amount of pain that human beings would do. Animals used for testing are often deprived of food, water and sleep. In many cases they are treated cruelly. For example, dogs are locked in gas chambers to test whether a particular insecticide is safe for inhalation by human beings. Most often, anesthesia is not used at the time of testing. Because they claim that test results get altered on doing so. However, just imagine that you are being operated on without anesthesia or jammed in a cell just because someone else wants to know how your body reacts to that particular environment. This principle means that animals should never be experimented upon whatever the potential gain for humanity. To infect monkeys with the AIDS virus or to expose rodents to toxic chemicals and radiation is simply not acceptable, whatever the supposed benefits. Right now there are millions of animals who are caged, tortured, and can't speak for themselves.

2.Animal testing is not necessary

A.inaccurate results

In fact, most animal experiments are done on animals that are nothing like human beings ,- which undermines the argument that these experiments are a reliable guide to human reactions. the reaction of a mouse to a substance is no guide to human reactions. Each species has its own unique physiology. And the more similar an animal is to a human being - e.g. a chimpanzee - the more intelligent and sentient it is, and so the more immoral it is to treat is as a disposable and worthless biological object.

B.It doesn’t make sense

For instance, we have this drug that has been safely tested on animals. It has passed all the trials, on the basis of which it has been deemed safe for human consumption. But technically speaking, the first time that this drug goes to a market, and the first consumer buys it, he/she becomes the first person to test it. So whether we like it or not, human trials are inevitable, and the risks associated with consuming it will remain the same, no matter how many animals it's been tested on.

Animal trials are not conclusive enough when we consider that their bodies are different from ours, and that they are being tested under laboratory conditions which are stressful and unnatural. It won't be far off-track to say that animal testing is not the

most reliable method of proving the safety of our drugs.

3.There are alternatives

A.Furthermore, there are alternatives to many tests that are currently done on animals - e.g. growing tissue or cell cultures from human cells in the laboratory.

B.The advent of genetic technologies has made possible all sorts of new and horrific acts of animal exploitation, from cloning sheep to creating mutant and hybrid creatures with no dignity or quality of life at all. We should end animal experimentation before things get even worse.

C.Other alternatives include -

In Vitro Test: Nowadays, companies opt for the In Vitro Test as a replacement for the Draize Test, to find out irritation to the eye or skin, dermal and airway sensitivity, and other possible threats to humans. In this test, human tissues are examined in test tubes, in order to study the side effects of cosmetic products.

Computer Models: Computers can be used to detect drugs, at an early stage, that pose a threat to humans. Advanced computer programs can predict the adverse effects of drugs more accurately than animal testing can.

Epidemiology: It is a branch of medical science that deals with the transmission and control of diseases or tumors. Epidemiology has already successfully proven the relation between smoking and cancer.

Clinical Studies: A thorough clinical research provides information on whether a particular medical practice is effective, by monitoring illnesses in human beings.

Skin Squared Test: This a test where a 3-dimensional human cell structure is used to calculate the level of toxicity in a substance.

Skin Cloning: Significant progress has been achieved by scientists in cloning human skin, so that the effects of cosmetic products can be predicted more accurately by testing them on human skin rather than animal skin.

Volunteers: Human volunteers are also coming forward to participate in various testing processes.
