1. Finish Outside View, Listening-in on the Internet platform after class. 2. Listen and imitate the pronunciation and intonation in Pronunciation part.

Prepare for the oral work on next class: 1) Read the useful expressions on P89 and prepare for a conversation based on the following instructions: A: Ask B about a market (e.g. location, the opening time, what it sells, busiest time, etc.). B: Answer A’s questions and mention a club near the market. B: Invite A to the club. A: Refuse politely but suggest some other time.

2) Prepare for group presentations on the following topics (All the topics must be prepared in each group): a. To what extent do you and your family practice New Year traditions, especially those mentioned in Outside View? b. Do you think the Chinese show more respect to the elders than the Americans? Why (not)? c. Do you have to believe the reasons behind a festival in order to celebrate it? Why (not)? d. What do think of the present holiday arrangement set by the Chinese central government? e. Introduce a traditional Chinese or Western festival in details to your group members.
