Activity 1: Before reading.

Finish exercise A1 &A2 on P34. Then watch a piece of video clip about cormorant fishing.

Activity 2: While reading.

Read paragraph 1 and 2 while listening to the tape . Let’s learn something about Wang Damin and his cormorants.

1.What is Wang Damin?

2.How old is he?

3.What do cormorants look like?

4.What does Wang Damin use cormorant to do?

5.Why cormorant are good at catching fish?

6.How long do cormorants stay under the water?

Read paragraph 3 while listeningto the tape .Let’s learn what the cormorant fishing is.

Read paragraph 3 and decide the following sentences are True or False.

( )1. Damin ties a piece of grass around the cormorants’ necks.

( )2. Damin catch fish with nets and a fishing rod.

( )3. Damin sets off to work on his boat in the early morning.

( )4.After dark, Damin lights a candle on a post at the front of the boat. Read paragraph 4 while listening to the tape . Then let’s have a discussion about the future of this type of traditional work.

Activity 3: After reading.

Group discussion: In 50 years, perhaps there will be no more cormorant fishermen in the world. Do you agree or not? What jobs do most young people choose to do today? Discuss with your partners.

Activity 4: Read after the tape, and try to imitate the pronunciation and intonation.
