Is it hard for you to get up early and get ready for classes? Some students at Winter Park High School just roll out of bed in their pajamas and go to class in their own bedrooms. Of course, their teachers and classmates do not see them because all their class-work is on the computer.

The Florida high school, the State’s only on-line school, has 250 students who are taking classes at home by computer.

―I’m a lot more comfortable at home,‖ says Luke Levesque, a 16-year-old boy who is taking a computer class on-line. He thinks the school’s computer room is so noisy that he can’t study well. ―Home is much better,‖ he says.

Students in this first on-line program take classes in algebra, chemistry, computer, economics, and Web-page design. They also have to go to a regular school to attend other classes.

When a student is ready to begin a class, he or she turns on the computer, reads the teacher’s instructions(指示), and begins working on the lesson for the day. What happens if a student has a question for the teacher? Or the teacher wants to say something about the work a student is doing? The student and the teacher talk to each other every day through e-mail or by telephone. For example, when Luke opened his daily e-mail from the teacher, it contained her instructions for the day’s computer lesson. When he finished, he e-mailed the work back to her for grading.

Is it easy for students to cheat on tests when they’re working at home? The teachers have already thought about this. They make students take their final exams in person in the classroom.

If this first online program goes well, in three years Florida high school students will be able to take all their classes by computer. When that happens, students will be able to get their high school diplomas(毕业文凭) without having to set foot in a classroom.

Born on a cold night in the church of a small Austrian village, Silent Night, the world's most famous Christmas carol, is celebrating its 190th anniversary.

The song, known as Stille Nacht in the original German, was first performed on December 24, 1818, in the tiny village of Oberndorf, as a local assistant priest, Joseph Mohr, sought to comfort his "He asked his friend Franz Xaver Gruber, a teacher, to compose the music for six verses he had written two years before, and they performed the song together at mass with the help of a simple guitar," says Renate Ebeling-Winkler, a historian and expert on the topic.

The song was an immediate success but remained a secret for many years, until an organ delivery man from Tyrol took note of it on his way through the village.

It soon became a favorite with Tyrolean singers, traveling up and down the continent in the winter to earn money.

"Admired for its fighting against Napoleon, Tyrol was very popular with allied countries(同盟国) and its best singers, like the Rainer family, were world stars," said Ebeling-Winkler.

These artists gave Silent Night worldwide fame, performing it at the royal court in London in 1827, in Moscow in 1831 and in New York in 1839. By this time, its origins had been largely forgotten and Mohr died in 1848 without ever knowing of his song's success.

Franz Xaver Gruber only was known about it in 1854 when the carol was almost considered belong to Michael Haydn, the brother of famed composer Joseph Haydn. But Silent Night had already made its way into German school books and into the Catholic and Protestant churches.

Often seen as the typical Christmas carol, it has been translated into more than 330 languages, bridging social, religious and cultural divides and contributing to a brief break in the battlefield of World War I on Christmas Eve in 1914. Every year, thousands of tourists, many from Asia, travel to the little village to take part in a Christmas Eve ceremony in front of the small church.

D for heart disease in one pill. Salim Yusuf of McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada was the lead investigator. He presented the findings at the American College of Cardiology Conference in Orlando, Florida.

The experimental drug is known as Polycap. It contains aspirin, a drug to lower cholesterol(胆固醇)and three medicines to lower blood pressure. The study was carried out at 50 health centers across India. More than two thousand people between the ages of 45 and 80 took part in the study. All had at least one risk factor for heart disease. These include high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes or being severely overweight.

The people were divided into 9 groups of about 200 people each. One group took Polycap. The other groups took either a single drug or different combinations of the medicines in the Polycap pill. The study showed that Polycap lowered blood pressure and cholesterol without many side effects. Doctor Yusuf said the single pill, taken once a day, could reduce the average person's risk of heart disease and stroke by about half. The maker of Polycap, Cadila Pharmaceuticals of India, paid for the study.

Cardiovascular diseases(心血管疾病) of the heart and blood vessels are the number one cause of death around the world. These diseases kill more than seventeen million people every year. 80 percent of them are in low and middle income countries. Doctor Yusuf said the single pill treatment could revolutionize heart disease prevention. People would be more likely to take one pill a day than many pills. And one pill would cost less than several pills.

Other heart doctors say heart disease prevention is important but not necessarily with pills. They say patients might be able to get the same results with changes in diet and exercise.

It is important to choose the right career for happiness, prosperity and general well-being. Most folks choose wrong careers for whatever reasons and then come home everyday with a long face and a sour temper, already dreading going back to work the next day. Here are a few tips that will help you figure out how to choose the right job:

Make a list of things you’re good at

One has to be realistic when making this list. _____________that you really like and note down matching skills: writing, sports, science, teaching, literature etc. You can even check with your close group of friends and family as to what they think you could excel at, and what would you suit you best.

Things to consider when making a career decision

First and foremost, the thing you should not consider to begin with is the salary. You first need to figure out whether this is what you want to do and will you be happy doing it for the rest of your life. Other things to consider are opportunities for progression in the job – how far can you go; job security – you don’t want to join a start-up that could go kaput in a few months, work environment, job profile – you don’t want to be joining a top notch ad firm as a copywriter and then be relegated to working on obituary ads.

Take the test

If you’re unable to come to a conclusion, take an aptitude test. There are several tests available online. Although might not be 100% accurate, it will at least give you a rough idea as to where your strengths lie.

Making the right career decision is not easy, but it not that hard either. Also, you always have the choice of making a career switch any time you feel like. So find your true calling and roll with it.

76. What is the main idea of the text? (no more than 6 words)

77. Complete the following statement with proper words. (no more than 5 words)

Salary is not the thing you should ______________ when you are applying for a job
